The short version
There are no accounts at Starbound Tarot. We never ask for your name. We keep your reading for 30 days so you can come back to it, then we delete it. We don't sell anything about you, and there are no ads.
What we keep
For each reading, we keep only what the reading needs:
- your question,
- your birthday, if you chose to add it,
- the cards you drew, the spread, and the sky at the moment you asked,
- the reading itself,
- whether the full reading was paid for, and the payment's reference number.
We don't keep your name or your card details. When you pay, our server only checks with the payment company that the payment went through.
If you choose "Email me my full reading", we keep your email address only until we have sent you that one email with your reading and its link. Then we delete the address. We never add you to a mailing list.
Keeping free readings fair
Each visitor can start three free readings a day. To count them, we keep a scrambled code made from your network address and the date. It can't be turned back into your address, it changes every day, and it is deleted after two days. Paying for, opening or finishing a reading is never counted.
Before a free reading starts, Cloudflare Turnstile quietly checks that a person, not a bot, is asking. It looks at signals from your browser to do this and doesn't use them for advertising.
How your reading is written
The Oracle is an AI reader. To write your reading, our server sends your question, your birthday (if you added it) and your cards to the AI service that writes the text. It uses them only to write your reading for us, and under its terms it may not use them to train its models. Please don't put anything in your question that you wouldn't want to share, such as full names, addresses or phone numbers.
Your private link
Each reading has its own private link. Anyone who has the link can open the reading, so keep it to yourself. We store only a scrambled version of the secret part of the link, so even we can't rebuild it.
How long we keep it
30 days. After that the link stops working and the reading is deleted for good. If you want to keep it, use "Save my reading" to save it as a PDF.
Want it gone sooner? Email hello@starboundtarot.com with your reading's link and we'll delete it.
Who helps us run the site
- Cloudflare hosts the site and the database where readings are kept, and runs the spam check. It also sends the reading email, if you ask for one. Like most hosts, it keeps short-lived technical logs, such as the IP address and time of each visit, to keep the site running and safe. Your rough location (your country) is used only to show you the right payment option, and we don't store it.
- The AI service that writes the readings, as described above.
- PayPal handles payments for most visitors.
- Gumroad may handle payments for visitors in the EU and the UK, and the tax on those sales.
When you pay, you give your payment details to PayPal or Gumroad, not to us. Their own privacy policies apply to what you share with them.
Cookies and your browser
To see how many people visit and which pages they read, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It counts visits without cookies and without following you across other websites.
We don't use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. Your browser stores one small note for us: the last welcome line it showed you, so you see a different one next time. Cloudflare's spam check, and PayPal's and Gumroad's payment windows, may store what they need to work.
Age
Starbound Tarot is for adults, 18 and over.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about a reading, or ask us to delete it. Because we don't know who you are, we need the reading's link to find it. Write to hello@starboundtarot.com.
